Cryotherapy/Moist Heat
Cold or heat is used as a local, superficial hypo/hyper thermal effect on the body. Cold decreases tissue metabolism and reduces nerve conduction and analgesia through vasoconstriction with reduction of pain and swelling as the desired effect. Heat increases blood flow through vasodilation while also relaxing tissue and reducing muscle spasm.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage for trigger point therapy, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.
Intersegmental Traction
Mechanical traction is being applied to separate and stretch the spinal segments. It is also being applied to promote distraction and gliding of the joint facets. It is also used to dissipate edema as a result of the movement involved in this modality. The alternating pull and relaxation helps to promote joint hydration.
Electric Muscle Stimulation
Electric stimulation therapy is a therapeutic treatment that is used to help to reduce edema, adhesions, muscle spasm and pain. It can help prevent atrophy and build strength in patients with injuries. It is also helpful in keeping muscles active especially after any type spinal cord injury or strokes. It also has positive effect on pain and providers passive exercise and relaxes the tissue.
Pulsed Ultrasound
This modality is used to provide a deep penetrating heat effect within the tissue. It also introduces a micromassage within the tissue by breaking down scar tissue and reducing edema. This modality also produces a mild sedative effect. Overall, ultrasound provides heat and micro massage where muscles, tendons and ligaments attach to the bone.
Therapeutic Exercise
Therapeutic exercises refers to a wide range of physical activities that focuses on restoring and maintaining strength, endurance, flexibility, stability and balance. The goal of therapeutic exercises is to return an injured patient to a fully functioning, pain-free state.
Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment
A chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying manipulation to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The common goal of most chiropractic techniques is to restore or to enhance joint function, with the general goals of resolving joint inflammation and reducing pain. Some approaches use some force (spinal manipulation), while others are more gentle (spinal mobilization). Spinal manipulation, also called osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) or manual therapy, is a non-invasive diagnosis and hands-on therapy that integrates osteopathy, chiropractic therapy and physical therapy. OMT is used to diagnose, treat and prevent illness or injury.
Hydrotherapy
This modality is used to help reduce muscle spasm, increase circulation, flexibility, joint mobility and range of motion. It has an analgesic effect, promotes tissue healing, helps breakdown aberrant adhesions and relaxes nervous system.
